Decision:

Salford City Council - Record of Decision (Cabinet)

I City Mayor, in exercise of the powers contained within the City Council Constitution do hereby approve: the expansion of Springwood Primary School as of 1 September 2021.

The Reasons are:Salford has experienced increased demand for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities support (SEND) provision in recent years. In particular, increased demand has been felt for the type of specialist education Springwood Primary School provides. The expansion of Springwood Primary School with the use of the Craig Hall site will create an additional 60 places and increase the overall capacity of the School to 300 places (Nursery to Year 6).

Options considered and rejected were: Options to expand the existing Springwood Primary School building was explored, however to due site restrictions, this was not a viable option.

Assessment of Risk: With demand for SEND provision continuing to grow, additional specialist places will be required. The expansion of Springwood Primary will ensure the continued delivery of high quality and local specialist provision.

The source of funding is: The project capital costs have been met from the local authorities SEND and Basic Need capital funding streams. All specialist places at Springwood Primary School will continue to be funded from the High Needs Block, part of the Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG).
