Council Tax and Business Rates Write Offs report Decision: Salford City Council - Record of Decision
I, William Hinds, Lead Member for Finance and Support Services, in exercise of the powers contained within the City Council Constitution do herby approve:- The proposed write-offs of irrecoverable debts as outlined below: - £ Council Tax debts amounting to 476,720.29 Business rates debts amounting to 4,483,265.91 Benefit Overpayments 81,488.81
All the amounts included in this report are within the £350,000 limit set for Lead Member approvals. and £ Council Tax credits amounting to 5,720.88 Business Rates credits amounting to 46,747.63
The Reasons are: The liabilities mentioned in the report for write-off are irrecoverable. Those being written on are cases where a credit balance exists on accounts. Options considered and rejected were: To leave outstanding amounts on the accounts for a further period. Assessment of Risk: The write-off irrecoverable amounts is an essential part of account administration. The source of funding is: The bad debt provisions. Legal Advice obtained: The Council has the power to write off irrecoverable debts and the Lead Member can write off individual debts up to a value of £350,000. Financial Advice obtained: The debt provision has been confirmed. The S151 officer confirms that no single debt is above the Lead Member delegated limit.
