Approval of indicative budget costs for the creation of additional secondary school places at All Hallows RC High School pdf icon PDF 231 KB

Decision:

Salford City Council - Record of Decision

I, Councillor Cammell, Lead Member for Children’s Services, in exercise of the powers contained within the City Council Constitution do hereby approve: The indicative budgets costs to support the creation of additional school places at All Hallows RC high school.

The Reasons are: To support the Local Authority’s secondary pupil place demand need, All Hallows RC high school have agreed to accommodate additional Yr7 places. This would see a temporary increase in PAN of 125 to 150 and will be applied across Year 7 for both September 2022 and 2023 intake.

In order to achieve this and to allow the increased cohort of pupils move through the school, there will be a need to carry out internal alterations to support general teaching and specialist teaching areas, along with an expansion of the existing dining area. In addition to supporting the immediate demand, the additional capacity created will also provide the local authority with an option for a more permanent solution if required.

Options considered and rejected were: For September 2022 intake, additional Year 7 places are being created across a number of schools within the city, including, All Hallows Roman Catholic High school.

Assessment of Risk: If the city council does not increase its secondary school provision to meet the projected demand, then the city council would not be fulfilling its statutory duty in relation to the provision of sufficient school places.

The source of funding is: The capital cost will be met from within the councils Basic Need grant allocations, provision for which is included within the Children’s Services Capital Programme.
