Development of Tennis Facilities in Salford Parks Decision: Salford City Council - Record of Decision
I, Councillor Barbara Bentham, Lead Member for Environment, Neighbourhoods and Community Safety , in exercise of the powers contained within the City Council constitution do hereby approve:
1. Investment from Lawn Tennis Association for improved parks tennis provision. 2. The introduction of ‘Ready to Rally’ and charging for tennis court hire.
The Reasons are an initiative from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) called Ready to Rally is being developed by the Place Directorate in partnership with Salford Community Leisure (SCL) to increase usage and improve tennis provision in parks across the city. The aim is to maximise tennis court usage for the local community, whilst at the same time investing in the available facilities. This proposal will provide investment, increase usage and generate ongoing income, to sustain the funding needed to protect the park facility in the longer term.
Options considered and rejected were: None
Source of funding: The total cost of the programme is £553,094. This will be funded via a £272,000 grant from the LTA with the remaining £281,094 via Section 106 agreements 270 (Buile Hill), 417 & 420 (Parr Fold Park), 374 (Eccles Rec) and a pending agreement for 234 (Lightoaks Park). Charges will be made for usage of the courts which will fund the ongoing maintenance and repairs.
