Salford City Council - Record of Decision
I, Councillor Merry, Lead
Member for Children’s
Services, in exercise of the powers contained within the City
Council Constitution do hereby
approve: Approve the indicative budgets costs to support the
permanent expansion of Salford City Academy High School as of
September 2021.
The
Reasons are: For the last three
academic years, Salford City Academy have accommodated additional
bulge classes (additional 90 Year 7 places). In order to support
the increased cohort as they move through the school, there will be
a need to undertake expansion works to the dining area and some
further internal remodelling in order to create additional class
bases. In addition to supporting immediate need, the additional
capacity created will also provide the local authority with a
solution for meeting further projected secondary pupil demand,
going forward.
Options considered and rejected were: None
Assessment of Risk: If
the city council does not increase its secondary school provision
to meet the projected demand, then the city council would not be
fulfilling its statutory duty in relation to the provision of
sufficient school places.
The source of funding
is: The capital cost will be met
from within the councils Basic Need grant allocations, provision
for which is included within the Children’s Services Capital
Programme. There is also a commitment from the Multi Academy Trust
to make a financial contribution.
